Miodowa Cemetery Matzeivas

We are fortunate to have a listing of over 6,300 tombstone inscriptions from the 'New' cemetery in Miodowa Street, Krakow. The original work was done by Mr. Benjamin Yaari (of Israel) who labelled and transcribed almost all of the legible matzeivas in the cemetery. Following his transcription, he painted a reference number on each tombstone. An example of his numbering can be seen on the lower right corner of this image (here labelled 20300). His list was written in Hebrew and was transcribed by Lili Haber... a mammoth task, as almost all of the names needed to be cross-checked with other Krakow records to confirm the surname spelling etc. The data included in this database comprises the following:

Ref: This is our own reference number
Last name of deceased:
First name of deceased:
Name of parent: This is invariably the name of the deceased's father
Name of spouse: In cases where deceased left a surviving spouse
Death Year:
Grave Number: (Mr. Yaari's numbering system)
Holocaust/Broken stone: Death in the Holocaust is indicated by '#'. Broken tombstone is indicated by '^'.
